Spring in Mexico
Lush and full of color, there is nothing like a spring in Mexico.
From purple Jacarandas, scented magnolias, to bright red tabachines, there is nothing like a spring in Mexican soil. The air is full of new beginnings, lots of sun, and, of course, lots of flowering masterpieces.
I created this piece to showcase my love for the three flowering trees you can see in spring in my origin city in central Mexico. To do this, I sketched the blossoms many times, researched the leaves that accompany the flowers, and decided to include one of the characters I have been sketching out recently, to add interaction, although it ended up being just a gnome enjoying the shade and smell of these flowers. I am so envious!
Many sketches were made and discarded until I finally considered adding a frame. I wanted to feel like the character is enveloped in this cozy abode filled with the flowers circling and opening, showing their colors.
We are seeing a framed picture of her at the exact moment of enjoying spring, or, if you like, like a window to her small yet wonderful world.
I might one day present this character to you all, but that is something for another time.
I created sketches on paper, then in Procreate. I selected a limited color palette and stuck to it until every color combination turned into the final illustration.
