Clay Vase

For flowers, a vase full of color and texture

Clay vases, clay mugs, plates, and even clay cooking instruments are iconic to my culture. To honor that tradition, I made this little illustration thought for a postcard for my mother, a nice clay jug turned vase with yellow dripping glaze used to fetch water now, becoming a temporary home for flowers, as we should, even if it is temporary, allowing beautiful things to blossom inside us.

I made a simple sketch for this one, and movement flowed effortlessly. As I kept on thinking how much I love these types of clay jugs, I remembered how they feel to the touch, so I added some texture to the clay vase, and if you look closely, I did also to the flowers.

I selected a very limited color palette to further challenge myself, and I honestly loved how this illustration turned out. Who would’ve thought that constraints in color and topic would make me create something I liked so much?
